Week 9

For several dates in our jar, I specified a time of year or a month that they needed to be done in.  So, I had Eddie draw an “October only” date this weekend, and he drew, “Let’s find a haunted house to get scared at!”

Unfortunately we don’t have a haunted house in the town, or even within the county we live in, so each year that we’ve gone to a haunted house, we’ve had to travel a distance to find one.  This year, we decided to head south of where we live about 40 minutes to Sullivan, IL to a haunted attraction called “Shotgun Manor”

Tickets cost $10, which is pretty average for a haunted house in our area.  Near a larger city, you’ll pay more (we paid $40 a person last year to do the “fast pass” tickets that allow you to jump the line at a haunt near Chicago!) but $10 was a good price for this haunted house.  We even had the option to purchase them online beforehand, with no fees, which was a nice perk, but turned out to be unnecessary, considering there wasn’t a line for tickets at the time we arrived.  A nice option though, nonetheless.

Once we got there, we had some entertainment in line by a couple of actors.  They were pretty funny & kept in character which is always really good.  I volunteered at an awesome haunt a couple years in college, so I am always comparing other haunts to that one, and these actors measured up, which was good!  After waiting in line about 30 minutes, it was finally our turn to tour the haunt!  Obviously no pictures are allowed inside, so you’ll just have to go if you want to see what it’s all about, but it was pretty good!  It was a self-guided haunt and you didn’t get put with any other groups, so it was just Eddie and I, which we liked.  It took probably 20-25 minutes to get completely through the place, which we felt was a good amount of time for our money!

All in all, a good date night!  Next week we’re also having an “October Only” date, and I’m looking forward to it!

Cheap Date Tip of the Week: Don’t forget about seasonal events that may be going on in your area!  It’s fun to see what’s happening for different holidays or special events that may be going on just once or twice a year.  Don’t miss out on them!
