Bonus Cheap Date 1

This week we had the opportunity to go on a bonus date to Brookfield Zoo in the Chicago area.  In August, my husband and I celebrated our anniversary with a trip to Chicago.  Before we went, I researched deals we could get on various attractions in the area.  I found a great deal on a 3-attraction pass for only $45.  You were able to choose a “premiere” attraction and 2 “signature” attractions.  The premiere ones cost around $30 if you purchase a ticket for those attractions on their own, and the signatures are about $15-20 each if purchased individually, so basically it’s like a buy 2, get 1 free deal.  During our trip though, we were unable to use all 3 of the attractions we’d purchased.  The passes had to be used within 30 days or we’d lose them… so I had a day off of work this week, and we headed north to the zoo!

It was about a 2.5 hour drive from our house, but driving a Honda gets me pretty good gas mileage, so we didn’t have to spend too much on gas, and our only expense we had to pay for at the park was for parking ($9) and for the dolphin show ($8 total).  The dolphin show was definately worth the $4 per person though, it was really entertaining!

My husband and I actually ended up being the “big splash” of the show, when we were asked a trivia question & answered incorrectly… then were splashed with gallons of water, compliments of a couple dolphins!  It was fun though, even though we were all wet!

You can't tell because of my black shirt, but I am just as soaked as he is!

This zoo is so huge that you have to visit more than once!  We came in the spring and then again this week, and we STILL haven’t seen it all!  We were able to spend more time at our favorite spots this time though, like the monkeys!

This little guy wanted to high-five through the glass!

Another favorite of mine are the seals & sea lions!

They love to show off and swim past the window!

All in all, it was a great day, and for very minimal cost to us!  While Brookfield Zoo isn’t free, there are some great zoos out there that are–the St. Louis Zoo, for example!  Look into free options in your area, you might just be surprised!

Bonus cheap date tip of the week: Look online for coupons or discounts before you go anywhere!  Many times you can find great deals this way and pay much less than you would have otherwise!  A simple google search can save you bucks!
